Dec. 30 (UPI) — A large landslide simply north of Oslo, Norway, on Wednesday left 10 individuals useless and almost two dozen unaccounted for, officers mentioned.

The landslide worn out greater than a dozen buildings in Ask, the executive middle of Gjerdrum municipality about 15 miles northeast of Oslo.

Authorities worry that some victims could also be trapped in buildings that collapsed within the slide.

Officers mentioned the landslide, which occurred earlier than daybreak Wednesday, was roughly 2,300 ft lengthy and dozens of ft broad.

“Those that labored right here final evening had been overwhelmed once they noticed the scene after daylight appeared,” native operations supervisor Roger Pettersen mentioned.

At the least six individuals from Ask had been hospitalized and a whole bunch extra from the village had been evacuated. Efforts to rescue others had been partly stymied by the continued hazard of the landslide.

“It hurts to see how the forces of nature have ravaged Gjerdrum,” Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg tweeted. “My ideas go to all these affected by the landslide. Now it can be crucial that the emergency companies get their job completed.”

About 300 individuals who had been evacuated from Ask took shelter at a lodge in close by Skjetten, its supervisor mentioned.
